Increased inflammatory response in association with the initiation of hemodialysis compared with peritoneal dialysis in a prospective study of end-stage kidney disease patients
Peritoneal Dialysis International Jan 12, 2018
Yong K, et al. - In patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD), researchers assessed the impacts of initiating haemodialysis (HD) and peritoneal dialysis (PD) upon inflammation and cardiovascular (CVD) risk markers. Initiation of HD vs PD was shown to have an association with significantly increased high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP). The plausibility of inflammation as a potential underlying contributor to the observed early mortality difference between dialysis modalities, need to be further explored.
