Increased incidence of vascular injury in obese patients with knee dislocations
Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma Feb 12, 2018
Johnson JP, et al. - A retrospective cohort study was carried out to evaluate the relationship between obesity, closed knee dislocation and vascular complications. The costs of stay with obese patients sustaining knee dislocations when compared with normal weight knee dislocation patients were noted to be increased. In obese and morbidly obese patient groups, vascular injuries were found to be far more common than nonobese patients. Because a significant number of patients required prompt vascular intervention, providers were recommended to be on high alert when managing knee dislocations in obese patients.
