Increased incidence of thyroid disease in patients with alopecia areata: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Dermatology Oct 20, 2019
Xin C, et al. - Researchers conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis by searching both English and Chinese literature databases to assess the risk of thyroid disease in patients with alopecia areata (AA). To summarize the link between thyroid disease and AA, random- or fixed-effects models were utilized. A total of 17 articles with 2,850 AA cases and 4,667 controls were involved. Overall, thyroid disease prevalence in AA patients was significantly increased compared with that in controls. Findings suggested that patients with AA should be screened for thyroid disease.
