Increased expression of GAB1 promotes inflammation and fibrosis in systemic sclerosis
Experimental Dermatology Sep 18, 2019
Shi X, Liu Q, Zhao H, et al. - Given that the receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) signal pathway plays a significant role in the process of systemic sclerosis (SSc; an autoimmune disease mainly characterized by persistent inflammation and fibrosis), and Grb2 associated binding protein (GAB) is crucial in activating RTK signaling, researchers ascertained if GAB1 was dysregulated and its potential role in SSc. According to findings, GAB1 expression was 1.6-fold higher in peripheral blood mononuclear cells, 2.5-fold higher in CD4+ T cells, and 2-fold higher in the skin from SSc patients compared with healthy donors. Findings suggested that GAB1 has a relatively high rate of expression in SSc, and GAB1 knockdown may attenuate SSc by stimulating fibrotic and inflammatory processes.
