Increased expression of DNAJC12 is associated with aggressive phenotype of gastric cancer

Annals of Surgical Oncology Jan 11, 2019

Uno Y, et al. - Researchers performed global expression profiling using tissues from four patients with metastatic gastric cancer to identify novel genes associated with aggressive phenotypes of gastric cancer. mRNA expression analysis was done on 15 gastric cell lines and 262 pairs of surgically resected gastric tissues. Gastric cancer tissues had higher DnaJ heat shock protein family (Hsp40) member C12 (DNAJC12) mRNA levels compared to normal adjacent tissues. They noted a significant association of high DNAJC12 expression in gastric cancer tissues with lymphatic involvement, infiltrative growth type, lymph node metastasis, and advanced stage. Multivariable analysis revealed that high DNAJC12 expression has an independent prognostic value for overall survival. Findings thus support DNAJC12 to be a candidate gene that could be associated with aggressive phenotypes of gastric cancer.
