Incorporation of whole pelvic radiation into treatment of stage IVB cervical cancer: A novel treatment strategy
Gynecologic Oncology Dec 13, 2019
Perkins V, Moore K, Vesely S, et al. - Researchers compared women who received both whole pelvic radiation (WPR) and chemotherapy (CT) vs CT alone in the management of stage IVB cervical cancer (CC) with respect to the overall survival (OS) and complication rates. In this multi-institutional, IRB-approved, retrospective review, they included 126 patients (pts) with stage IVB CC, diagnosed between 2005 and 2015. Outcomes revealed the achievement of significant OS benefit in correlation to receiving WPR in addition to CT. Rates of pelvic disease-related morbidity did not differ between CT alone and WPR plus CT groups.
