Incorporating a nebulizer system into high-flow nasal cannula improves comfort in infants with bronchiolitis
Respiratory Care Jun 28, 2018
Valencia-Ramos J, et al. - Researchers performed this randomized cross-over study in infants with bronchiolitis who required high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) therapy, to compare the delivery of aerosol therapy using a nebulization system integrated into HFNC vs the standard practice of using a jet nebulizer with a face mask with respect to subjects' levels of comfort and satisfaction, as assessed by health professionals and caregivers using the COMFORT-Behavior (COMFORT-B) scale, a visual analog scale, and a numeric rating scale. They found that relative to the use of a conventional jet nebulizer, the use of a nebulizer incorporated into HFNC therapy provided an increased level of comfort and satisfaction.
