Inconsistent relationship between body weight/body mass index prior to total knee arthroplasty and the 12-year survival
The Knee Oct 29, 2019
Jenny JY, Saragaglia D, Bercovy M, et al. - A national, multicentric, retrospective study was performed in France on a total of 1,604 TKAs in order to determine whether body weight (BW) and BMI significantly affect the long-term survival rate following implantation of a mobile-bearing TKA. A notable impact of the BW on the 12-year survival rate for any reason and for infection was found, however, this impact was not comparable to the BW or BMI. No important impact of the BMI on the 12-year survival rate for any reason, for any mechanical reason or for infection was discovered. Hence, the results imply that for revision, a greater BMI should not be regarded as a risk factor for mechanical purposes if a mobile bearing TKA with verifying the design is implanted.
