Incisional hernia after surgery for colorectal cancer: A population-based register study
International Journal of Colorectal Disease Jul 20, 2018
Söderbäck H, et al. - A population-based register study was conducted to determine the risk for occurrence of incisional hernia as well as examining the extent to which the presence of comorbidity influences the risk for incisional hernia. Researchers identified all procedures registered in the Swedish Colorectal Cancer Register (SCRCR) 2007-2013. Thirty-nine thousand, nine hundred eighty-four procedures were registered in the SCRCR during 2007–2013. The cumulative incidence of incisional hernias 5 years after surgery was at least 5%. According to the findings obtained, significantly increased risk for incisional hernia was found for the male gender, operation time exceeding 180 min, body mass index (BMI) > 30, age < 70 years and postoperative wound complication.
