Incidental congestive heart failure in patients with aldosterone-producing adenomas
Journal of the American Heart Association Dec 13, 2019
Huang WC, Chen YY, Lin YH, et al. - Researchers assessed the risk of new-onset congestive heart failure (CHF) in patients with aldosterone-producing adenomas (APAs). They also determined the influence of adrenalectomy on new onset of CHF. This study was performed on 688 patients with APA who were matched with controls who had essential hypertension. Following targeted treatment, significantly lower risks of incidental CHF development and mortality were observed in the APA group. Relative to controls with essential hypertension, lowered risks for CHF and mortality were observed in 605 patients with APAs who underwent adrenalectomy. Experts concluded that lower risk of incidental CHF and all-cause mortality may be observed during a long-term follow-up in patients with APAs in relation to adrenalectomy.
