Incidence rate and risk factors of status epilepticus after stroke
Seizure - European Journal of Epilepsy Aug 08, 2021
Wang H, Chen D, Tan G, et al. - This meta-analysis revealed about 6.9 patients with status epilepticus (SE) per 1000 strokes. More often, patients developed non-convulsive status epilepticus after stroke, and likely risk factors for SE after stroke include African American race, alcohol abuse and renal disease.
PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Online Library, and Clinicaltrials.gov were explored.
Total 1,650 articles were considered, and 17 articles with 2,821 instances of SE among 1,088,087 instances of stroke were included.
The incidence rate of SE post-stroke was 6.90 per 1000 total strokes.
A reduced rate of SE was noted in relation to hypertension and diabetes.
