Incidence, predictors, and outcomes of colonic ischaemia in abdominal aortic aneurysm repair
European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Jul 26, 2018
Behrendt CA, et al. - The incidence, predictors, and outcomes of colonic ischaemia (CI) following abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) repair were determined using National claims from Germany's third largest insurance provider, DAK-Gesundheit. Findings revealed an uncommon occurrence of post-operative CI after AAA repair. Its occurrence, however, is associated with worse in hospital outcomes and lower long-term survival. After both intact and ruptured AAA repairs, EVAR was noted to be protective. Researchers recommend considering the protective effect of EVAR when discussing the treatment of AAA with patients.
