Incidence of stress urinary incontinence following posterior urethroplasty for radiation-induced urethral strictures
Urology Dec 01, 2017
Chung PH, et al. - The purpose of this study was to discern the frequency of de novo stress urinary incontinence (SUI) after posterior excision and primary anastomotic (EPA) urethroplasty in patients with radiation-induced urethral strictures (RIUS). Researchers also comparatively analyzed these results with that of the data yielded from patients with pelvic fracture urethral injuries (PFUI). SUI appeared to affect one-third of patients, among RIUS patients with an intact bladder neck. Subsequent AUS placement was disclosed to be uncommon. A rise was noted in the risk of SUI through the prostatic urethral involvement. SUI was found to be less common among PFUI patients. It possibly associated with a limited involvement of the proximal bulbomembranous urethra and lack of radiation.
