Incidence of squamous cell carcinoma in oral lichen planus: A 25-year population-based study
International Journal of Dermatology Feb 17, 2019
Laniosz V, et al. - In this population-based retrospective cohort study, researchers assessed 303 individuals to estimate the incidence of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) in oral lichen planus (OLP) to assist physicians concerning appropriate long-term monitoring of such cases. They found that 11.4 was the overall incidence of OLP per 100,000 person-years. They also noted seven cases with OSCC (incidence of OSCC, 3.1%) at 20 years after the OLP diagnosis among the OLP cohort. They concluded that subjects with OLP, especially the erosive type, had an higher incidence of OSCC development.
