Incidence of sinusitis in burn victims and association with inhalational injury
Journal of Burn Care & Research Jan 22, 2018
Melchior NM, et al. - In mechanically ventilated burn victims, the incidence of sinusitis was determined. Researchers also assessed if the presence of inhalational injury increases the tendency of developing sinusitis. Before sinusitis diagnosis, rates of nasotracheal/nasogastric intubation, nasoenteric feeding, and length of mechanical ventilation were not markedly different. Patients with sinusitis suffered a significantly higher rate of inhalational injury than those who did not develop sinusitis. Thereby suggesting that inhalational injury was a significant risk factor for developing sinusitis.
