Incidence of severe hypoglycemia and possible associated factors in pediatric patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus in the real-life, post-DCCT setting: A systematic review
Pediatric Diabetes Jun 14, 2019
Cherubini V, et al. - In the real-world setting, researchers ascertained if the incidence of severe hypoglycemia (SH) in pediatric type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) patients has altered since 1993. A systematic PubMed literature search for prospective or retrospective observational studies (≥250 members) on SH epidemiology or related topics in T1DM pediatric patients, published between October 1993 and June 2016, identified 35 articles (including >55,000 members). In pediatric patients with T1DM, SH has declined in incidence since the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial but remains a common problem. To assist decrease the danger of SH in this population, the ideal use of new insulin therapies/regimens/technologies, enhanced education, and dedicated specialized management teams are required.
