Incidence of progression of persistent non-dysplastic Barrett's esophagus to malignancy
Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology Sep 14, 2018
Peters Y, et al. - Researchers conducted a population-based study including patients with a first diagnosis of non-dysplastic Barrett’s esophagus (NDBE) from the Dutch nationwide registry of histopathology to investigate how the number of endoscopies negative for dysplasia and the persistence of NDBE over time correlates with progression to malignancy. Outcomes suggest a low risk of progression to high-grade dysplasia or esophageal adenocarcinoma among patients with stable NDBE. Hence, in subgroups of patients with persistent NDBE, surveillance intervals could be lengthened or perhaps discontinued.
