Incidence of myocardial infarction and cerebrovascular accident in patients with hidradenitis suppurativa
JAMA Dermatology Nov 21, 2019
Reddy S, et al. - Using a demographically heterogeneous population-based sample of over 56 million unique individuals, researchers conducted a retrospective cohort analysis between January 1, 1999, and April 1, 2019 to compare risk of myocardial infarction (MI), cerebrovascular accident (CVA), and composite disease (MI or CVA) in patients with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), stratified by use of biologic agents, with controls without HS. Using electronic health records data, people with HS (n = 49,862) and without HS (n = 1,421,223) have been identified. Findings suggested that HS patients tend to have a higher MI and CVA risk. In patients with HS, early management of modifiable cardiovascular risk mediators can be justified.
