Limited data was yielded with regard to the LCI outcomes for infants under 6 months, especially from non-US settings. In order to completely gauge the influenza disease burden and the potential effect of maternal influenza immunisation programme on morbidity and mortality in young infants, globally representative and reliable incidence data was required.
