Incidence of developing contralateral Ménière’s disease in patients undergoing transmastoid labyrinthectomy for unilateral Ménière’s disease

Pang B, et al. - Researchers conducted this retrospective chart review of 140 patients who underwent labyrinthectomy for intractable vertigo due to unilateral Ménière’s disease (MD) to determine the incidence of developing contralateral MD. Contralateral MD development was noted in 12% of these patients. A 30% bilateral involvement rate of MD is reported in the current literature. This study reported significantly lower incidence when compared to the current literature.
