Incidence of delayed diagnosis of orthopaedic injury in pediatric trauma patients
Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma Sep 16, 2017
Podolnick JD, et al. - This cross-sectional retrospective analysis determined the incidence of the delayed diagnosis of orthopaedic injuries in pediatric trauma patients. Lower Glasgow Coma Score (GCS), higher injury severity score (ISS), and greater hospital length of stay were associated with a delayed diagnosis of injury (DDI). In addition, it was noted that only 1 missed injury needed surgical intervention, rest were conservatively managed. Detection of life-threatening injuries in trauma patients was possible via performing initial evaluation in these subjects, but the tertiary survey remained a vital part of patient care to detect missed injuries.
