Incidence of and mortality from epidermal necrolysis (Stevens-Johnson syndrome/toxic epidermal necrolysis) in France during 2003-2016: A four-source capture–recapture estimate
British Journal of Dermatology Aug 15, 2019
Chaby G, Maldini C, Haddad C, et al. - Via analyzing data from four national databases, researchers estimated the incidence of and mortality due to epidermal necrolysis (Stevens-Johnson syndrome/toxic epidermal necrolysis) in France over a 14-year period. During the study period, 2,635 incident cases of epidermal necrolysis were recorded in at least one of the four databases. According to this capture-recapture analysis, the annual epidermal necrolysis incidence is greater than the generally reported one to five cases per million inhabitants. Such estimates could be useful in creating suitable health care plans for individuals with epidermal necrolysis, especially the need for specialized care units.
