Incidence of adrenal gland tumor as a second primary malignancy: SEER-based study
Endocrine Connections Aug 30, 2018
Rashed WM, et al. - According to data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database, researchers reviewed the incidence and survival of adrenal gland tumors as second primary tumors. From 1992 to 2013, the SEER 13 Registries Database was used. Using the Multiple Primary Standardized Incidence Ratios (MP-SIR) session, all primary cancer sites were selected. Findings revealed that the overall standardized incidence ratio (SIR) of the adrenal gland tumor as a second primary was 1.49. The data presented in this work showed a high incidence ratio of the event was also identified in specific primary tumor sites: hypopharynx, other endocrine tissue, chronic myeloid leukemia, small intestine, liver, stomach, nodal NHL, kidney and renal pelvis and breast. They suggested that racial disparity is an important challenge in cancer treatment in the US and should be taken into consideration in the design of cancer prevention programs.
