Incidence and risks for surgical site infection after closed tibial plateau fractures in adults treated by open reduction and internal fixation: A prospective study
Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research Aug 28, 2020
Li J, Zhu Y, Zhao K, et al. - A prospective study was conducted to evaluate the incidence and independent risk factors of surgical site infection (SSI) after ORIF for closed tibial plateau fractures in adults, in order to identify the characteristics of the SSI and to avoid the occurrence of SSI. This research was conducted at a first-level trauma center. The study individuals were adult patients with closed fractures of the tibial plateau, all of whom underwent open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) treatment between October 2014 to December 2018. Researchers obtained patient demographics information, surgery-related variables, and indexes from preoperative laboratory examinations. The potential risk factors were evaluated by using univariate and multivariate logistic analysis models. At admission, they should pay enough attention to patients who carried one or more of these factors and adopt more reasonable treatment strategies to decrease or avoid the occurrence of SSI.
