Incidence and risk factors of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension in patients with diagnosis of pulmonary embolism for the first time in real world

The Clinical Respiratory Journal Sep 03, 2018

Yu Y, et al. - In this prospective, long-term, follow-up study, researchers evaluated the incidence and risk factors of symptomatic chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) in consecutive patients with pulmonary embolism (PE) diagnosed for the first time. Time from symptoms to treatment of PE ≥ 1 month, intermediate to high risk PE, segmental and sub-segmental branch location of embolism and PE related primary risk factors were the identified factors that increased the risk of CTEPH. In PE patients diagnosed for the first time, CTEPH is a relatively common and serious complication in the real world. Results of this study suggested that early diagnosis and treatment of PE will reduce the incidence of CTEPH in these unspecified patients.
