Incidence and risk factors associated with 30-day post-operative venous thromboembolism: A NSQIP-pediatric analysis
Journal of Pediatric Urology May 13, 2018
Ahn JJ, et al. - Authors assessed the incidence of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in the 30 days after surgery, as well as related risk factors. They evaluated all cases in the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program Pediatric (NSQIPP) database from 2012 to 2015 for the presence of postoperative VTE. In children, post-operative VTE was not seen to occur frequently, still increased risk was noted in certain individuals and thus guidelines for prophylaxis and treatment were required. Findings suggested an association of malignancy, pre-operative illness, and greater anaesthetic times with an increased risk of VTE.
