Incidence and prognostic role of the ocular manifestations of neuroblastoma in children
American Journal of Ophthalmology Feb 04, 2020
Graef S, et al. - Researchers conducted this retrospective cohort study to characterize the ocular manifestations of neuroblastoma in a large cohort of children. Between 1989 and 2017, the records of patients diagnosed with neuroblastoma at a tertiary-care pediatric hospital were analyzed. The incidence and prognostic role of ocular findings were the main outcome measures. In the study cohort, there were 523 patients with neuroblastoma [median age at diagnosis was 1.9 years, median follow-up was 4.0 years]. Nearly one in six patients with neuroblastoma had ocular manifestations in this cohort, but only 3% presented with ocular findings only. Orbital involvement was common and correlated with a poor prognosis, on the other hand, opsoclonus, female sex, and younger age at diagnosis were related to a favorable prognosis.
