Incidence and prognostic impact of post discharge bleeding post acute coronary syndrome within an outpatient setting: A systematic review
BMJ Open Feb 25, 2019
Ismail N, et al. - After searching Medline, Embase, Amed and Central (Cochrane) up to August 2018 for studies that assessed the incidence of bleeding after hospital discharge, researchers determined the incidence of bleeding events after acute coronary syndrome (ACS) following hospital discharge, as well as the prognostic impact of bleeding on mortality, major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), myocardial re-infarction and rehospitalization in the postdischarge setting. Most bleeds occurred in the first 3 months after hospital discharge, with the most common event being bruising. Findings revealed that complications of bleeding following ACS management are common and continue to occur after hospital discharge in the long term. These bleeding complications might increase the risk of mortality and MACE, but to assess their long-term effects, more evidence is needed.
