Incidence and prevalence of major adverse cardiovascular events in rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and axial spondyloarthritis
Arthritis Care & Research Dec 03, 2018
Lauper K, et al. - Using data from a large cohort of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), psoriatic arthritis (PsA), or axial spondyloarthritis (SpA) included in the Swiss Clinical Quality Management registry, researchers compared the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) among these patient groups. In this mixed retrospective and prospective cohort study, the primary outcome included a composite of myocardial infarction, transient or permanent cerebrovascular event, or cardiovascular-associated death. Overall, the investigators found no significant difference in MACE incidence and prevalence between RA and axial SpA or PsA, indicating that inflammation may lead to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease rather than a particular disease.
