Incidence and outcomes of lymphoid malignancies in adolescent and young adult patients in the United States
British Journal of Haematology Aug 17, 2018
Blum KA, et al. - Researchers used Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) data to determine lymphoma incidence and survival in adolescent and young adult (AYA, defined as 15-39 years of age) and adult patients (> 39 years). The estimated age-adjusted incidence rate in the AYA group was highest for classical Hodgkin lymphoma, then diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL). For adults, it was highest for plasma cell neoplasms, DLBCL and chronic lymphocytic leukemia. They found that 2- and 5-year relative survival rates (RSRs) in AYA patients with lymphoma were better than those reported in adults. They also noted that RSR of AYA patients exceeded adult RSR when restricted to Hodgkin lymphoma and DLBCL.
