Incidence and outcomes of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia in patients undergoing vascular surgery
Journal of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia Sep 02, 2017
Chaudhry R, et al. – This study investigated the incidence, predictive risk factors, and outcomes of heparin–induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) in patients undergoing vascular surgery, using the National Inpatient Sample (NIS) from 2010–2012. The reported incidence of HIT in the vascular surgery population was found to be similar to the previously reported incidence in cardiac surgery patients. Additionally, presence versus absence of HIT was associated with a 3–fold increase in mortality in vascular surgery patients.
