Incidence and in-hospital outcomes of patients presenting with stent thrombosis (from the Japanese Nationwide Percutaneous Coronary Intervention Registry)

The American Journal of Cardiology Dec 18, 2019

Ohno Y, Yamaji K, Kohsaka S, et al. - Researchers used nationwide registration system for percutaneous coronary interventions (J-PCI) in order to evaluate the characteristics in patients with a clinical presentation of stent thrombosis (ST) as well as their in-hospital results. Participants were acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients undergoing PCI with clinical findings of definite ST from January 2014 to December 2016. Younger age but a higher incidence of prior myocardial infarction was noted in patients with ST vs those without. Increased rate of crude in-hospital death was observed in ST patients. Following full match comparison, a significantly higher incidence of recurrent ST (post-PCI) was observed in ST patients vs ACS patients presenting without ST. Overall, findings revealed a significantly higher incidence of in-hospital mortality and cardiovascular complications, including recurrent ST, in patients with ST vs those without, despite the younger age of patients with ST.
