Incidence and impact of early postoperative ventricular arrhythmias after congenital heart surgery
Heart Rhythm Dec 08, 2018
Fuchs SR, et al. - The already reported morbidity and mortality associated with postoperative arrhythmias following pediatric congenital heart disease (CHD) surgery has led researchers to determine the incidence of in-hospital ventricular arrhythmias (VAs) after CHD surgery as well as its clinical relevance during the postoperative hospital course in a prospectively enrolled population of patients undergoing CHD surgery at their center from September 2007 through December 2016. Compared with the previous reports, a more common incidence of early postoperative VAs was reported following CHD surgery. An increased in-hospital mortality was observed in relation to postoperative VAs and the subgroup of treated ventricular arrhythmia was identified as an independent risk factor for in-hospital mortality.
