Incidence and factors associated with venous thromboembolism in women with gynecologic cancer
Thrombosis Research Nov 18, 2019
de Araujo Trugilho I, et al. - A total of 1,885 women with a gynecologic cancer was involved in this study in order to investigate the incidence of venous thromboembolism (VTE, a common clinical event in individuals with gynecologic cancer) and the related factors in women with various types of gynecologic cancer. No statistically notable variation in the incidence of VTE according to the type of gynecologic cancer was noted. When stratified by type of thromboembolic events, a statistically important variation in the incidence of pulmonary embolism was seen. In multiple regression analyses, in individuals with gynecologic cancer, the absence of cancer treatment was recognized as a factor related to VTE, especially in those with cervical, endometrial, and ovarian cancer. For the total study population, mainly people with cervical and endometrial cancer, an advanced stage of cancer was observed to be correlated with the incidence of VTE. Venous thromboembolic events were encountered by nearly 40.8% of women. Moreover, these events were related to the treatment modality and the stage of cancer.
