Incidence and effect of early postoperative ventricular arrhythmias after congenital heart surgery
Heart Rhythm Feb 07, 2019
Fuchs SR, et al. - Researchers analyzed patients undergoing congenital heart disease (CHD) surgery at their center from September 2007 through December 2016 to assess the incidence of in-hospital ventricular arrhythmias (VAs) and its clinical significance during the postoperative hospital course. In a total of 2,503 postoperative courses in 1,835 patients, they identified VAs in 464 (18.5%); treatment was provided for 135 (29.1%). A more common occurrence was seen in this study of early postoperative VAs following CHD surgery than was previously reported. Postoperative VAs were noted to be correlated with increased in-hospital mortality; treated ventricular arrhythmia is an independent risk factor for in-hospital mortality in multivariate analysis.
