Incidence and distribution of advanced colorectal adenomas in patients undergoing colonoscopy for screening, surveillance, and symptoms

Cancer Management and Research Oct 03, 2018

Kang H, et al. - Researchers investigated the frequency and distribution of advanced colorectal adenomas (ACAs) among Chinese patients who were referred to receive a colonoscopy. Of the three subgroups of screening, surveillance, and symptomatic, the patients in the symptomatic subgroup were further divided into the alarm and non-alarm categories. All colorectal lesions were examined with respect to location and morphology. Findings revealed a higher incidence of ACAs in patients undergoing colonoscopy due symptoms vs the incidence in those who underwent the procedure for screening or surveillance purposes. The authors recommended that more attention should be focused on distal and nonpolypoid lesions to improve the detection rate of ACAs.
