El Naga AN, Tavolaro C, Agel J, et al. - A retrospective medical record review at a single institution was performed to evaluate the rates and degree of iatrogenic neurologic decline following thoracic costotransversectomies (TCT) and subsequent rates and degree of motor recovery. Researchers included 116 consecutive patients who had undergone TCT operations between May 2008 and April 2018. They obtained clinical, surgical, and intraoperative neuromonitoring data. In comparison with pre-operative exam, 6.0% of patients undergoing TCT experienced an initial decline in motor score with 94.0 % demonstrating an unchanged or improved examination. The data indicated that all individuals who exhibited a decline recovered to within 4 points of the preoperative motor score within the first year post-operatively.
