Incidence and associated risk factors for platinum-induced ototoxicity in pediatric patients
International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology Jun 16, 2018
Waissbluth S, et al. - Authors assessed the prevalence of platinum-induced ototoxicity in children with malignancy and examined potential risk factors. They performed hearing evaluations with auditory brainstem response, otoacoustic emissions and/or audiometry before every chemotherapy cycle and after the end of chemotherapy. A potential side effect of platinum-based chemotherapy was sensorineural hearing loss. A higher risk of developing hearing loss was seen in pediatric patients receiving cisplatin chemotherapy with a cumulative dose higher than 400 mg/m2, those receiving cranial irradiation, and in patients younger than 5 years.
