International Journal of Infectious Diseases Jan 30, 2020
Ngocho JS, et al. - Researchers interviewed parents of children aged 2–59 months with chest radiography-confirmed community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) in order to attain information on treatment provided to these children in Tanzania. Overall, they analyzed 109 children with CAP. Antibiotics were given at home in nearly 25% of children with CAP. Often delayed seeking of appropriate treatment was reported in children with CAP in Tanzania. In 27.5% of the cases, unnecessary antibiotic administration was reported in children with viral CAP. They identified the correlation of nasopharyngeal carriage of bacteria in children with referral to a higher level of care.
