Inadequate physical activity and sedentary behavior are independent predictors of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease
Hepatology Oct 27, 2020
Kim D, Vazquez‐Montesino LM, Li AA, et al. - The present study was attempted to evaluate whether inadequate physical activity and sedentary behavior are independent predictors of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. Researchers conducted a serial, cross‐sectional analysis among adults by using the 2007‐2016 US National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. They characterized nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and advanced fibrosis by applying various noninvasive panels. A total of 24,588 individuals (mean age, 47.4 years; 47.9% males) were included in the study. The results indicated that sedentary behavior emerged as an independent prognosticator of NAFLD. In the cohort with NAFLD, overall compliance with the physical activity Guidelines was lower, with gender‐ and ethnicity‐based variations. The data considered that implementation of these assessments in clinical practice may improve the understanding as well as clinical outcomes.
