Inadequate glycemic control is associated with increased surgical site infection in total joint arthroplasty: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Shohat N, et al. - Authors evaluated the relationship between perioperative glycemic control and the risk for surgical site infection (SSI), mainly periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) after total joint arthroplasty (TJA). Inadequate glycemic control was seen to be related to increased risk for SSI following TJA, although, the optimal HbA1C threshold remained contentious. The conventional 7% cutoff for risk stratification was not supported by the results.
