In vitro fertilization as an independent risk factor for placenta accreta spectrum
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Jun 12, 2020
Salmanian B, Fox KA, Arian SE, et al. - Researchers performed a retrospective analysis of all deliveries in a prospective, population-based cohort (2012–2019) in a tertiary academic center in order to ascertain if in vitro fertilization is an independent risk factor for placenta accreta spectrum. Among a total of 37,461 analyzed deliveries, 5,464 (15%) had a history of cesarean delivery, 281 (0.7%) had placenta previa in their index pregnancy, and 571 (1.5%) had in vitro fertilization pregnancy. Placenta accreta spectrum was reported in 230 (0.6%) deliveries. Data gained indicated that for placenta accreta spectrum, in vitro fertilization is an independent risk factor, although its relative clinical importance is small when compared with that of the presence of placenta previa and history of cesarean delivery.
