In vitro fertilization as an independent risk factor for placenta accreta spectrum
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology May 05, 2020
Salmanian B, Fox KA, Arian SE, et al. - Researchers tested the hypothesis postulating in vitro fertilization (IVF) as an independent risk factor predicting Placenta accreta spectrum (PAS). They performed a retrospective analysis of 37,461 deliveries, including of 5,464 (15%) with history of cesarean delivery, 281 (0.7%) with placenta previa in their index pregnancy, and 571 (1.5%) with IVF pregnancy. The frequency of PAS was 230 (0.6%). Analysis revealed independent correlation of IVF with risk for PAS, although its relative clinical relevance compared with the presence of placenta previa and history of cesarean delivery is small.
