In utero exposure to antidepressant medication and neonatal and child outcomes: A systematic review
Acta Psychiatrica Scandinavica Oct 30, 2019
Fitton CA, Steiner MFC, Aucott L, et al. - In this systematic review, researchers assessed published studies that reported on outcomes to offspring following in utero exposure to antidepressant medications and used an untreated depressed comparison group. Searching OVID, Scopus, EBSCO Collections, the Cochrane Library and Web of Science databases, they included 16 primary studies in this work. The analysis revealed a correlation of antidepressant exposure with an increased risk of lower gestational age, preterm birth, but not with low birth weight or being small for gestational age compared with untreated depression. Insufficient data were gained to affirm the association between antidepressants and congenital defects or developmental disorders.
