In kinematically aligned total knee arthroplasty, failure to recreate native tibial alignment is associated with early revision
Journal of Arthroplasty Jun 19, 2020
Scanlon CM, Sun DQ, Alvarez AM, et al. - In this study, the differences were assessed between preoperative anatomic alignment and postoperative component alignment in a consecutive series of kinematically aligned (KA) total knee arthroplasty (TKA) and investigated the correlation between alignment changes and the likelihood of early revision. Researchers enrolled a total of 219 patients who had undergone 275 KA TKA procedures were reviewed. They assessed preoperative anatomic alignment and postoperative tibial and femoral component alignment radiographically. The data demonstrated that small increases in tibial component varus in comparison with native alignment are correlated with early aseptic revision in patients undergoing KA TKA.
