In-hospital outcomes of transcatheter vs surgical aortic valve replacement in end stage renal disease
Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions Dec 01, 2017
Alkhalil A, et al. - Researchers performed a comparison of in-hospital outcomes of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) vs surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) in end stage renal disease (ESRD) patients requiring hemodialysis (HD). They recognized a high in-hospital mortality among patients with aortic stenosis (AS) on HD regardless of treatment modality. In this population, TAVR and SAVR indicated comparable in-hospital mortality. However, They observed shorter length of stay, lower hospitalization costs, lower in-hospital complications, and higher rates of home discharge with TAVR.
