In-hospital coronary revascularization rates and postdischarge mortality risk in non–ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome
Journal of the American College of Cardiology Sep 17, 2019
Bueno H, Rossello X, Pocock SJ, et al. - Among enrollees of twin multinational, observational, prospective cohort studies, the EPICOR (long-tErm follow uP of antithrombotic management patterns In acute CORonary syndrome patients) and EPICOR Asia, researchers assessed coronary revascularization rate (CRR) and 2-year postdischarge mortality rate (2YMR) among 11,931 patients with non–ST-segment elevation acute coronary syndrome who survived to discharge. The range of mean CRR was from 0.0% to 96.8% in the first and tenth decile, respectively; from 12.3% in Romania to 92.4% in Slovenia; and from 53.9% in South East Asia (SEAsia) to 90.4% in South Korea–Singapore–Hong Kong. A significant variation in 2YMR was evident between hospital deciles of CRR, countries, and areas. Findings revealed a strong association of higher CRRs, at the hospital, country, and world region levels, with higher postdischarge survival. This indicates that CRR is a marker of higher system quality.
