Impulsivity and Salivary Cortisol Level in Patients With Substance Dependence
Addictive Disorders & Their Treatment May 16, 2019
Dessoki, HH, et al. – Researchers assessed the link between different facets of impulsive behavior with addiction-related problems and diurnal salivary cortisol levels. This cross-sectional case/control study included 50 patients that were matched for age, sex, and socioeconomic status. Significantly higher scores on urgency, lack of premeditation, and lack of perseverance subscales were seen in patients with substance dependence. About 76% had no problem with alcohol use, while 20% had mild problems and 4% had severe problems. No relationship was seen between diurnal salivary cortisol levels and impulsivity.
