Progress in Neuro-Psychopharmacology and Biological Psychiatry Feb 04, 2020
Fond G, Tinland A, Boucekine M, et al. - Via performing this multicenter study in 4 French cities, researchers sought to determine the rates and associated factors of (i) major depressive disorder (MDD), (ii) antidepressant prescription and (iii) MDD non-remission in homeless individuals with bipolar disorder (BD) or schizophrenia (SZ). Inclusion of 700 individuals with SZ or BD (mean age: 38 years; 82.5% men) was done: 55.4% were diagnosed with MDD but only 10.4% received antidepressants. Violent victimization in the past 6 months, alcohol use disorder and current substance abuse disorder were linked with heightened rates of MDD. Increased unremitted MDD observed in > 70% of the treated patients was noted in correlation to BD diagnosis and substance abuse disorder. Antidepressants were administered twice more frequently to BD-MDD patients than those with SZ-MDD
