Improving patient safety during procedural sedation via respiratory volume monitoring: A randomized controlled trial
Journal of Clinical Anesthesia Dec 13, 2017
Mathews DM, et al. - This study represented an attempt to examine the utility of a respiratory volume monitor (RVM) to reduce the incidence of low minute ventilation (MV) events in procedural sedation. Findings revealed that in comparison to the RVM group, patients in the Control group spent more than double the amount of time with low MV. When the anesthesiologist found the RVM useful for managing care, this difference became more pronounced. These data granted credibility to the usage of minute ventilation monitoring in procedural sedation.
